With only 19,697 inhabitants, l'Alt Urgell is one of Catalonia’s least densely populated regions:
13 inhabitants per km². Its population is distributed throughout 126 inhabited nuclei, although more than 55% is concentrated in its capital, La Seu d'Urgell.
